How It Works

Before, during, or after your event, you can calculate its carbon footprint. The steps below detail the Carbon Zero Event calculation process:

Meaningful change can take time, but you can take the first step towards a more sustainable event programme right now…

Step 1

Setup

Create an account to begin your Carbon Zero Event journey.

Once you’ve done this you’ll be logged in automatically and ready to start adding your data. Add your Event Title, and include the number of attendees. You can import data via a Spreadsheet if you’d like to add them in bulk, or manually add your details. You’ll start with registration data, but will be required to enter details across a variety of areas.

To add in the rest of the information, click “Continue to Next Step“.

Step 2

Chapters

Next, you’ll need to provide your event details across 5 key areas:

  1. Accommodation
  2. Travel
  3. Venue
  4. Food & Beverage
  5. Materials & Waste

Accommodation is only applicable if your delegates are planning to stay overnight to attend your event. You’ll need to provide details on the accommodation your staff use during the event.

Travel encompasses all types of travel, from public transport to air travel.

Venue requires details of the space(s) used for your event, including factors such as Audio-Visual (AV) equipment. You may also need to add details of any virtual attendance that takes place.

Food & Beverage covers all refreshments served during your event, from teas and coffees to a sit-down dinner and catering.

Finally, Materials & Waste covers the types of materials used in the setup of the event and their production, transport, and disposal.

Step 3

Reports

Once you have added all possible details and marked each section as complete, you’ll receive a total carbon footprint.

Our calculator will use the information you input to calculate your carbon footprint using emissions data from internationally recognised bodies such as DEFRA and the EU Commission.

Alongside your total, you’ll be able to see a dashboard summarising your results and download a PDF of your final footprint.
